POWERING ALBERTA’S RURAL COMMUNITIES
We operate more than a dozen rural electricity systems (about 3,500 km of distribution power lines) owned by cooperatives. Rural Electrification Associations (REAs) have a long history in Alberta, first emerging when electricity was only available in larger cities and towns and along major transportation routes. Farmers and ranchers came together to string miles of wires and bring electricity to their community.
Today, we operate many of these customer-owned systems of behalf of the REA and its members. An elected board of directors handles the REA’s business operations. We build, operate and maintain their system.
If you live in one of these areas, you’ve probably seen us around. We work around the clock to bring you safe, reliable electricity you can count on. We install your service, read your meter, keep your poles and wires in good working order and restore power when the lights go out.
