CENTRAL EAST TRANSFER OUT TRANSMISSION PROJECT
PROJECT OVERVIEW
ATCO Electric Ltd. (ATCO) and AltaLink Management Ltd. (AltaLink) were both directed by the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) to develop portions of the Central East Transfer Out Transmission Project (the Project). The Project is to reinforce and upgrade the transfer-out capability of the transmission system in the central east area to the rest of Alberta’s Interconnected Electric System.
ATCO’s approved Project is located between the existing Tinchebray 972S substation near the Village of Halkirk, Alberta and the service territory boundary near the Villages of Alix and Nevis, Alberta. The Project will include the construction of two staged 240-kilovolt transmission lines and alterations to the existing Tinchebray 972S substation.

TIMELINE
July 2024 - Major construction activities commenced
February 2024 - Received direction from AESO to begin stage 2 construction
February 2023 - Pre-construction activities commenced
December 2022 - Received direction from AESO to begin stage 1 construction
August 2021 – AUC grants approval for Project
September 2020 - Facility Application and filing with Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC)
