Protect yourself from fraud

BE AWARE OF SUSPICIOUS PHONE CALLS

We’ve been made aware of suspicious activity where scammers are targeting our customers via phone calls. These scammers often pose as ATCO representatives and threaten to disconnect or withhold power unless customers provide them with payment. THIS IS A SCAM.

We are also aware that scammers have been asking customers to call 1-800 numbers with voice recordings that are similar to that of ATCO Electric’s. Never return a call to a number that was provided by a caller that cannot be verified as legitimate. If you have concerns about fraudulent calls, please either contact us at 1-800-668-2248 or 1-800-668-5506. Alternatively, please contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.

  • We will NEVER ask you to provide payment through these Methods:

Your safety and security are our biggest priority. If you receive a suspicious phone call we urge you too:

    • Resist the pressure to act immediately. Legitimate businesses will give you time to make a decision. Anyone who pressures you to pay or give them your personal information is most likely a scammer.
    • If you have any questions about your account, call us at 1-800-668-2248.
    • If you get a suspicious call, we encourage you to report the incident to the RCMP and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501

    • In-person – we will never come to your property to ask for payment.
    • Purchasing a pre-paid credit card.
    • Wiring money from Money Mart or a loan centre.
    • Texting or emailing your bank account or credit card information to us.
